FDA Updates Black Box Warning on Antidepressants

Increased suicidality risk widens to include young adults too.

food and drug administrationYou'd think that by now people would learn, but that's still not the case for millions in the U.S. The mountain of evidence showing how harmful antidpressant drugs are cannot be ignored, and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that the black box warning on antidepressants now includes 18-24 yr old young adults as well as teenagers.

Despite the very obvious link to school violence (see documentary video by Gary Null) and the undisputible increase in suicidality amont teens and young adults proven in study after study, doctors keep prescribing these drugs to people of all ages and patients keep believing they're good for them.

In an effort to save face, the FDA kept its buddy-buddy relationship going with drug makers by allowing them to include that the drugs are good for older adults - at least until more studies are done to show that they're not. After all, the drug makers have to target a new market if they're losing ground in another. In addition, even though the vast majority of the mind-altering drugs in this general category aren't approved for use in children, the FDA will not ban their use on them and there are very little consequences for doctors who cause harm to patients by giving children these drugs.
